Winchester(TN) "WinterFest"
For the fourth consecutive year, WinterFest was taken by a different winner with this years version being hijacked by a pair of Alabama natives. Brandon King out dueled pole sitter Mark Mears for the early lead then held back the "Decatur(AL) Raider" to the season opener at Winchester.
Shelbyville’s Jay Brinkley was a tight third with Corinth, Mississippi’s Ronald Dunn grabbing a fourth place finish in front of Cleveland, Tennessee’s Billy Mayo. David Gentry got by Indiana’s Greg Johnson in the closing laps to nab sixth while Lamar Scoggins trailed Johnson at the line while holding off Ray Cook who came from his sixteenth starting spot to finish ninth as track champion Davis Brannon rounded out the Top ten.
Forty seven Late Models qualified in three groups with Mark Mears leading Group three at 15.02 while Brinkley and Gentry were second and third. Brandon King led group two at 15.08 over Greg Johnson and Ronald Dunn while Maryville, Tennessee’s Brad Coffey, in his first trip to Winchester led Billy Mayo and Lamar Scoggins in Group one. The Top three in each group were locked in with the Top 5 from each of the three groups last chance races all making the show.
Defending race champion Todd Morrow edged Dane Dacus in his race but fell out in the main event while Corey Posey and Bruce Williams were also last chance winners.

Thirty seven Open Wheel Mods time trialed in two groups with the Top four from each group being locked in to the 24 car starting field while eight from each of the two groups last chance races also making the 20 lap main event. Former Champion David Jackson and Alan Holmes led all qualifiers.
Holmes lap of 16.98 earned him the pole position and "Mophead" would parlay his starting spot into a wire to wire victory over one of the strongest fields of Open Wheels ever assembled at Winchester. Jackson edged Shane Stephens for the runner-up finish while consy winner Mark Haddon slipped around Jeff Howell in the closing laps for fourth. Howell’s effort was impressive for his first trip to Winchester as he lost fourth spot while trying to get by Stephens for third. Mississippi’s Jason Hollis started fifteenth and charged through the field to finish sixth.
