Winchester(TN) Speedway, June 3 race results
The twice rained-out Tennessee Valley Concrete 2-Barrel Tussle was one of the featured events Saturday night with Scott Cornelius leading all 21 racers with a 15.93 lap, during time trials.
When the green flag was unfurled for the 25 lap main event it was Mark Haddon jumping into the early lead with Cornelius and Tommy Davis in pursuit. On lap six with Cornelius pressuring Haddon on the high side two time winner Davis split the lead duo and took the point. Haddon seemed to be spurred on by this move and a fierce struggle ensued with Haddon reclaiming the lead just before mid race. With Mark out front Davis experienced problems and exited. A wild incident on the back stretch sent Cale Finley around and Randy Judge off the high side but both were able to continue.
There was passing action throughout the field with last week’s winner Larry DeLong starting on row six and charging his way into the runner-up spot in the closing laps while Eddie Graves had a fine run to take third ahead of a pesky Steve Vann. Cale Finley recovered from his early incident to finish fifth in front of last week’s runner-up Scott Grant.

The Trophy Shop Super Stockers were also featured on this night as heat winners Jeff Frame and Jason James would roll the dice(literally) with the result being a six car inversion for the main event.
Brian Hudson took advantage of his good fortune and led most of the way in the 20 lap main event for his initial trip to victory lane in the current campaign. Last week’s winner James was second with pole sitter David Russell in third. Five time winner Jeff Frame was fourth while defending Champion Johnny Payne grabbed a top 5 finish.
Jeff Woods sixth place finish earned him the $100 bonus from Larry Spell’s Warren County Auto Sales for passing more racers in the main event than anyone else while David Russell picked up the $100 for being the highest finishing non winner in 2006.

In the Wreck-A-Mended Body Shop Late Model division it was Chad Bone that bested 15 other Late Model racers with a 15.73 lap during time trials but early problems sidelined the affable Shelbyville chauffeur while Shannon Davis grabbed his third win of the season over defending Super 6 series Champion David Jackson. Defending speedway Champion David Brannon was third ahead of front row starter Randy Gifford and young gun Bruce Williams.

In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Open Wheel division it was Henry Hanger again the dominant force after winning the heat race and topping the Open wheel field with David Jackson a close second. A mid race charge by Jackson netted him the lead that was followed by a four lap side by side battle that resulted in Hanger reassuming the point and ultimately the victory. Colt Russell is fast becoming a force in the open wheel division as Colt out dueled Shannon Davis and a recovering(from an early race crash) Alan Holmes, to garner a third place finish.

The Cumberland Bail Bonding Super Stock division was action packed and the action didn’t stop at the checkered flag. Heat race victor John Whaley appeared to have captured his sixth win of the season when a protest resulted in both the protester and the protested being disqualified over technical violations and a resultant scuffle ensued(anyone needing the sponsors assistance?). With peace restored it was Jeff Anderson capturing both the win and vaulting into the season point’s lead. Heat winner Chad Jean was second with James Sullivan in third and Stacey Scott fourth. Young Ryan Partin in only his third race captured a Top 5 finish.
