CLARKSVILLE, TN – StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point leader David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN will be looking to three-peat this Saturday night in the $2,500-to-win 40-lap series event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Gentry will have some tough competition, not only from the series traveling regulars, but also from the local favorites.
Gentry has won seven of the 15 StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National events this season, including the season opener at Talladega Short Track on January 8, and the August 5 race at TST. At the latter event, “Lewisburg Lightning” posted a “clean sweep” by also setting fast time, winning the StormPay.com Lightning-Quick 6 Dash, and leading all 40 laps.
Eight of the top ten drivers in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region for non-touring drivers complete regularly at TST. Five of those drivers posted top ten finishes at the StormPay.com DLMS National event at TST on August 5.
Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL has clinched the StormPay.com WRS East Region Championship. On August 5, Wilson was the second-quick qualifier, and finished sixth in the main event. Wilson has nine wins this season in StormPay.com WRS competition, and he has accomplished this with a steel-head “602” GM Performance Crate Engine.
Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL is second in the StormPay.com WRS East Region, and finished seventh on Aug 5. Logan Yates of Delta, AL is fourth in the StormPay.com WRS East Region points, and finished third at TST on August 5 behind Gentry and veteran Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA. John Pierce is fifth in WRS East Region points, and finished eighth at TST on August 5.
Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is sixth in the StormPay.com WRS East Region points, and is fresh off a TST Weekly Racing Series win last Saturday night at TST. Elkins finished tenth in the StormPay.com DLMS National event at his home track on August 5.
Other top Talladega Short Track regulars looking to beat the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series touring regulars are Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, who is third in the StormPay.com WRS East Region points, Buddy George of Ragland, AL, and Jimmy Hudgins of Talladega, AL. Hudgins finished fourth in the StormPay.com DLMS Talladega Short Track event on August 5.
Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN is still challenging Gentry for the 2006 StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Championship. Buckingham is second in the StormPay.com DLMS National point standings with three wins this season, and is 54 points behind Gentry.
Georgia drivers Jeff Smith of Villanow, Jeff Fields of Aragon, Zach Nichols of Cedartown, Frankie Beard of Hartwell, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville are third through seventh respectively in the StormPay.com DLMS National point standings. Beard is the top Rookie of the Year candidate, and was the fast qualifier and second-place finisher in the January 8 TST event.
Other top entries expected for the 16th round of the 2006 StormPay.com DLMS Talladega Short Track event on Saturday night include top 15 StormPay.com DLMS National point drivers Carnell Parker III of Clarksville, TN, Michael Keener of Douglasville, GA, Ryan Gifford of Winchester, TN, and Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA.
Talladega Short Track will host a practice session for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series on Friday night with gates opening at 5 p.m., and practice at 7:30 p.m. TST local divisions will also be competing in qualifying and heat races.
On Saturday night, the gates open at 4 p.m. with the drivers meeting set for 6:15 p.m., and hot laps scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series will be competing in Qualifications, the StormPay.com Lightning Quick 6 Dash, B-Main races, and the 40-lap Main event. There will also be main events for the local divisions.
