CLARKSVILLE, TN - Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS picked up his 12th StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to clinch the West Region Championship. Keeton, who has 11 victories this season at Whynot Motorsports Park and one at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, has a total of 752 points.
Keeton and StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL will be the two drivers eligible for a $1,000 bonus if either one of them should win the $3,000-to-win 40-lap StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Championship Race at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on December 14.
There are still plenty of points battles ongoing for the last week of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region season. The top six point drivers in the StormPay.com WRS West Region will be eligible for point fund money at the WRS Awards Banquet in Tampa, FL on December 13, and an invitation to the Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race.
Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL finished fourth at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night and moved up to the second spot in the West Region with 711 points in his best 16 finishes. Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS, even though he netted eight points with a second-place Whynot finish on Saturday night, dropped to the third spot with 708 points in his best 16 finishes.
Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS picked up his WRS-leading 14th win of the season on Friday night at Southern Speedway to remain in the fourth spot with 670 points. Despite having the most wins in the West Region, the majority of Reynolds’ victories came with car counts of 12 or less, and less total points are awarded compared to races with car counts of 13 or more.
Tony Albright of Clarksville, TN and Steven Ashby of Cunningham, TN, who compete at StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, TN, are fifth and sixth respectively. Albright has 646 points in his best 16 finishes that count in the point total, and Ashby has 643 points in his best 16 finishes.
Both Albright and Ashby did not compete on Saturday night, as StormPay.com Speedway was rained out, as was Thunderhill Raceway in Lawrenceburg, TN where Ashby has also competed this season. Ashby has a slim four-point lead over two other drivers for the sixth, and last points fund paying spot with one week of competition remaining.
Landon Frith of Terry, MS is trying to rally into the top six, as he picked up his seventh StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, MS. Frith has accumulated 639 points in his best 16 finishes.
Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS finished third on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, and with the higher car count there, netted more points than Frith, and moved into a tie with Frith for the seventh spot. A tiebreaker would go Frith’s way because he has more wins.
Owen Stockstill of Columbia, MS with 635 points and Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS with 629 points are ninth and tenth respectively, and still in the hunt for the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region top six.
In other StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series action over the weekend, Mark Tice of Hollandale, MS won his second straight win at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on Saturday night, and Davin Bates of Independence, LA picked up his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS.
Behind Wilson in the top six of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region are Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, Logan Yates of Delta, AL, John Pierce of Billingsley, AL, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL.
In addition to the top six point drivers in each StormPay.com WRS Region, the top six drivers, excluding the top six regional drivers, from each StormPay.com WRS-Sanctioned track will also receive invitations to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race.
After 26 weeks of StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series competition, a total of 306 different drivers have raced in a WRS event.
