CLARKSVILLE, TN – The final week to earn points in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region saw a tight point battle for the sixth and final points fund paying position. Steven Ashby of Cunningham, TN and Landon Frith of Terry, MS ended up in a tie for the sixth spot, and the tiebreaker using finishing records gave Ashby the position.
Both Ashby and Frith had seven wins during the 27-week StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series season, but Ashby had five second-place finishes, and Frith had none.
Ashby joins the top five in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region to receive an automatic invitation to the 40-lap $3,000-to-win StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on December 14.
Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS won the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship followed by Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL, Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS, Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS, Tony Albright of Clarksville, TN, and Ashby.
Along with making the top six in the West Region, Ashby was also the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, TN.
Frith, who was the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, MS, will earn an invitation to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race, along with the top six drivers from each StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series track, excluding the top 6 in the West and Regions.
Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS took the eighth spot in the West Region, followed by Owen Stockstill of Columbia, MS, who picked up his first StormPay.com WRS win of the season on Friday night at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.
Davin Bates of Independence, LA finished tenth in the StormPay.com WRS West Region after taking his eighth win of the season Saturday night at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and the track championship.
In other StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series action during the final points weekend, James Young of Richland, MS was the winner on Saturday night at Swinging Bridge Raceway. Terry King of Columbus, MS was the winner on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS. Carnell Parker III of Clarksville, TN won on Saturday night at StormPay.com Speedway.
In the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region, Jason Wilson won the championship followed in the points fund paying positions by Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, Logan Yates of Delta, AL, John Pierce of Billingsley, AL, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL.
Rounding out the top ten in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region were Samuel Brown of Fyffe, AL, Jeremy Pruitt of Chattanooga, TN, Buddy George of Ragland, AL, and Steve Kirk of Munford, AL.
